Impact
KICKSTARTING THE HYDROGEN ECONOMY IN SPAIN
Foundation for Aragón to become a global hydrogen hub, driving innovation and inspiring future projects
Sustainable economic growth under EU taxonomy, diversifying the local economy and contributing to long-term prosperity
~4,000 jobs while advancing the Just Transition Municipalities Program
Expansion to 2 GW of electrolyser capacity in the next phase, reinforcing its leadership in green energy
Project information point
An itinerant information point was set up and available for visit for one to two weeks in each municipality where the Catalina Project is being implemented
This measure was aimed at the local population interested in learning about the Catalina project, as well as at attracting talent through the management of visits with educational centres. The itinerant information point has been visited by more than 500 students from schools, high schools, and vocational training centers in the region.
The information points explained the different parts of the project through infographics, audiovisual media and 3D models
Staff from the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation explained the electrolysis process and the different uses of hydrogen and gave live demonstrations while using a model of an electrolyser
Up to today the PIP was visited by more than 2.000 people
We will announce new locations soon
Scholarship programme
With a view to training the future professional profiles required by the project, the Catalina Project has created a training scholarship fund in collaboration with the University of Zaragoza and the Government of Aragon that will finance the studies of Aragonese students pursuing Master’s, University Degrees, and Intermediate and Higher-level Vocational Training Cycles.
The Catalina Project scholarship fund will cover the complete training of the selected students, facilitating their subsequent access to a permanent job in the project. It will also benefit students from the areas where the project will be implemented.
Local Development Plan
The Local Development Plan (LDP) of the Catalina Project, will be kicked off when the project starts its construction and channel socioeconomic investments in the municipalities where the project will be implemented.
Through a three-year budget and a distribution mechanism among the affected municipalities the LDP will facilitate funds to initiatives of local interest with profound social impact, such as educational initiatives, social measures, support for the business fabric, support and training measures, contribution to the well-being of neighbour’s and promotion of protection of the historical-cultural heritage of the municipalities.
DECARBONIZING the Spanish Industry
Catalina's green hydrogen production of 50k tpa could cover almost half of the current demand in Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia
Catalina's contribution to European and national targets
European Hydrogen Ambition
The EU aims to produce and import 6 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030, positioning hydrogen as a key solution for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors
H₂MED Hydrogen Pipeline
Spain, France, Germany and Portugal are developing the H₂MED pipeline to connect the Iberian Peninsula with the broader European hydrogen network, forming the backbone of a competitive, pan-European hydrogen market
Spain’s Renewable Hydrogen Goals
Spain targets 12 GW of electrolysis capacity and 25% renewable hydrogen use by 2030, driving national and European decarbonization efforts
Catalina’s Contribution
By 2028, Catalina will install a 500 MW electrolyser, scaling up to 2 GW by 2030, supporting EU and Spanish hydrogen targets and accelerating green energy deployment
